WH: No Need for Special Prosecutor on IRS

IRS Scandal

While more than three quarters of Americans want a special prosecutor to investigate the IRS for its discrimination against conservative non-profit applicants, the White House maintains that no such prosecutor is necessary. Deputy White House press secretary Josh Earnest said on Thursday that everything is running smoothly without a special prosecutor. He stated that the White House is cooperating with Congress, and that the Department of Justice is investigating.

“There are a lot of people looking at this from a lot of different perspectives. We’re confident those who need to be held accountable will be,” Earnest said. “"The president is committed to making sure that steps are taken to make sure something like this doesn’t happen again.” Not committed enough to appoint an independent authority, of course. But committed.
