Prosecutor Quotes Zimmerman to Open Trial: 'F------ Punks. These A-------."
In an attempt to paint George Zimmerman as a vindictive killer seeking the death of Trayvon Martin, prosecutor John Guy opened the second-degree murder trial by quoting Zimmerman’s words to a 911 dispatcher as he followed Martin: “F------ punks. These a-------. They always get away.” According to Guy, Zimmerman was profiling Martin; Guy said Zimmerman thought Martin was “someone about to commit a crime in his neighborhood.” Guy added, “He shot him for the worst of all reasons: because he wanted to.”
Guy disputed the alleged exchange between Martin and Zimmerman that ended with Zimmerman’s broken nose and a gash on the back of Zimmerman’s head; Guy said that Martin had never held his hand over Zimmerman’s mouth or reached for his gun, since none of Zimmerman’s DNA was found on Martin, and none of Martin’s fingerprints were found on the holster or gun. Guy made no mention of the fact that the neighborhood had seen repeated break-ins by young black males in the previous few months.
