DeMint to Putin: You Should Know About American Exceptionalism, Since You Were KGB Opposing It

On Friday, Heritage Foundation President Jim DeMint blasted Russian President Vladimir Putin, who recently ripped into the notion of American exceptionalism in The New York Times. DeMint wrote, “America is an exceptional nation – that is, one like no other, not just now but in history – because it is dedicated to the universal principle of human liberty. This is grounded in the truth that all men – not just Americans – are created equal and endowed with inalienable rights by their Creator.” DeMint reminded Putin of America’s history of liberation of enslaved nations, including those behind the Iron Curtain, noting, “you must know this history well, since you were a KGB agent in Germany at the time.”

DeMint also slammed Putin’s pretensions at democracy, stating, “in Russia today, the rule of law is easily ignored…you’ve managed to remain in complete power since 2000, even though your country’s original constitution supposedly limited you to two consecutive terms. You may want to devote your attention to such topics in future writings.”
