WaPo: ObamaCare Site Unlikely to Be Fixed By November 30

To take some of the media heat off, the White House created its own November 30 deadline to get the federal ObamaCare exchange repaired. If it is not, millions who will have their health insurance cancelled at the end of the year will not be able to re-enroll in time. Tuesday, the Washington Post reported that HealthCare.gov is unlikely to be fully functional by then:

Software problems with the federal online health insurance marketplace, especially in handling high volumes, are proving so stubborn that the system is unlikely to work fully by the end of the month as the White House has promised, according to an official with knowledge of the project.

The insurance exchange is balking when more than 20,000 to 30,000 people attempt to use it at the same time — about half its intended capacity, said the official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to disclose internal information. And CGI Federal, the main contractor that built the site, has succeeded in repairing only about six of every 10 of the defects it has addressed so far.

If the legions, who through no fault of their own had their insurance plans canceled, cannot access the federal ObamaCare exchange to re-enroll, we are looking at a potential humanitarian crisis.

Imagine you are ill and now in a situation where your insurance was canceled and you will no longer be insured at the end of the year. But now, because the government website doesn’t work,  you might not be able to buy insurance.

How many of these people have surgeries or chemotherapy scheduled in early January?

Furthermore, many of those who have lost their insurance are discovering that the ObamaCare plans are more expensive and result in the loss of your doctor.

In liberal Massachusetts, only 1% of the 150,000 who had their plans cancelled have yet to re-enroll.

The millions with canceled plans have until December 15 to re-enroll. If not, they will find themselves uninsured on January 1.

December 15 is a mere 32 days away.
