Celebritis Want You to Vote (for Obama, Natch)

Some of the biggest celebrities in Tinsel Town want you … to vote next month.

Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Selena Gomez, Sarah Silverman, Ellen DeGeneres, Jonah Hill and Joseph Gordon-Levitt are among the actors appearing in the allegedly nonpartisan clip.

Left unsaid: Please vote for President Barack Obama. Most of the celebrities in the spot below have openly cheered on Obama both in 2008 and this year. Plus, the hot button issues mentioned in the ad are hardly a right-of-center laundry list of critical items.

Climate change? Do these celebrities have any idea how low that polls in terms of voter concerns?

Among the concerns these stars reveal in the video: Jobs, marriage equality, climate change, foreign policy, reproductive rights, immigration, worker’s rights, teacher salaries and education.

These kind of “viral” videos hit once every four years, and they almost always hit red on the “insufferable” meter.

At least Hill has the right idea – “What am I doing here?” he asks at one point.

The clip might have more weight if it included a few openly conservative actors. Why not Jon Voight, Clint Eastwood, Kelsey Grammer or Patricia Heaton? That might have made the message more powerful – celebrities reaching across the aisle to say, “Hey, please vote … for someone.”
