David Letterman Targers Talk Show Host, Jay Leno Mocks Commander in Chief

David Letterman just can’t find anything funny about President Barack Obama. So he resorts to taking jabs at his favorite target–conservatives.

Meanwhile, the soon to be unemployed Jay Leno continues to do what he’s paid handsomely to do–mock the President of the United States as the news cycle permits on The Tonight Show.

A stark example of this tale of two talkers comes with a pair of political jabs thrown this week. Letterman, commenting on N.J. Gov. Chris Christie’s recent stomach stapling procedure, joked that “now if we can get Rush Limbaugh to have his mouth stapled.”

Not topical, not funny and certainly partisan sniping at its weakest.

And then there’s Leno, soon to be replaced by Jimmy Fallon despite a track record of sturdy ratings. Leno remains one of the few comedians who routinely target President Obama, although never in a mean-spirited fashion. This week’s revelations about how the administration handled the Sept. 11, 2012 terrorist attack in Benghazi inspired Leno to share this one-liner.

“The White House has a new slogan about Benghazi: Hope and change the subject.”

Leno doesn’t pick sides in his monologues. Letterman does, and in such an obvious manner he’s missing plenty of comic material along the way.
