Stephen Colbert Doubles Down on Race Card, Ignores Fact that Zimmerman is Hispanic

Stephen Colbert must be drinking deep from the mainstream media well. The host of The Colbert Report played the race card Monday night in discussing the George Zimmerman acquittal, apparently not realizing that the accused was Hispanic.

You can’t blame the comedian. News outlets have been bending over backward to describe Zimmerman as a “white Hispanic,” a classification rarely if ever used prior to the death of Trayvon Martin. Even the Associated Press has been calling Zimmerman, who is half white, half Hispanic, white. Raise your hand if you recall press outlets repeatedly calling President Barack Obama a “white African-American.”

“Zimmerman’s acquittal is seen as a point for white people,” Colbert says, launching into a point system gag about whites versus blacks in popular culture.

Let’s keep in mind the FBI found no evidence of racial animosity in Zimmerman’s actions leading up to the death of Martin. That “truthiness” isn’t factoring into Colbert’s material which ended with more race-baiting rhetoric.

“White people stop being so scared of young black men. And young black men, stop being so scary,” he said.
