Adam Carolla's Crowdfunding Project Hits $1 Million Mark, Breaks Record

Adam Carolla felt deflated when his smart 2007 rom-com The Hammer got little love from film festivals or distributors. He didn't give up on his big-screen dreams, nor did his legion of fans.

Now, Carolla's first crowdfunding effort has netted him a cool $1 million to produce his next feature film.

The comedian's Fund Anything campaign for the upcoming comedy Road Hard, an effort which began July 2, hit that milestone earlier today. It paves the way for him to star, co-write and co-direct in a new feature film without the strings common to studio-based production.

“Reaching $1 million dollars is amazing! I’m blown away by the response from my fans who have proven that you don’t need Hollywood to make a great movie,” said Carolla in a statement.

He's not the first person to leverage his fan base to fund a film, given the recent success of projects by actor Zach Braff and the defunct drama Veronica Mars. Carolla's effort marks the quickest $1 million crowdfunding effort for a comedian.
