Joan Rivers on Middle East Crisis: 'Palestinians Started It!'

Joan Rivers and Howard Stern make the strangest of bedfellows.

Yet this week each is furiously defending Israel in ways most fellow celebrities won’t touch.

Earlier this week, Stern railed against an anti-Israel caller. Now, Rivers is unleashing on both Israeli critics and members of the mainstream media courtesy of a new interview captured by TMZ.

The veteran comic tried to put the current battle into perspective.

“If New Jersey were firing rockets into New York we would wipe ’em out,” the Big Apple dweller says. “If we heard they were digging tunnels from New Jersey to New York we would get rid of Jersey.”

Rivers had much more to say.

“Palestinians, you cannot throw rockets and expect people not to defend themselves,” she says.

The TMZ interviewer, sounding as if he just read like every mainstream media reporter’s pro-Hamas talking points, then asked her thoughts on Palestinian casualty rates.

“Don’t put your goddamn things in private homes … weapons stashes in private homes,” she says.

“Where are the civilians supposed to go?” the interviewer asked.

“I don’t care! They started it … they started it! For months this is going on. What are you supposed to do?”

Rivers then turned on media coverage of the current crisis.

“ABC should be ashamed of themselves and CNN should be ashamed of themselves,” she says without naming specific areas where those networks were at fault.

And when the TMZ employee mentioned that actress/singer Selena Gomez recently tweeted her support of Gaza Rivers doesn’t take a beat to respond.

“Oh, that college grad … let’s see if she can spell Palestinian,” she says.
