Flashback: Martin Bashir's Flippant Slavery Analogy
Martin Bashir, the MSNBC host who suggested Friday that Sarah Palin deserved defecation and urination in her mouth to punish her for comparing the national debt to slavery, used a similar slavery analogy in 2011.
Twitchy reported Bashir's hypocrisy on Saturday evening, after old evidence was unearthed by Newsbusters. Small surprise, as slavery and Jim Crow references are staples of left-wing agitprop against the GOP.
Bashir has not suffered any disciplinary action for his gross obscenity (unlike Alec Baldwin, whose anti-gay tirades finally earned his show a suspension). And while some conservative groups press for Bashir to face consequences—quite correctly—it might also be best for conservatives if the network were to maintain him, even to promote him. Bashir is not only an unlikable host, but also a rather stupid and mockable one.
One of Andrew Breitbart's best interviews ever was with Bashir in 2011. The MSNBC host was armed with Media Matters talking points about Breitbart's book, Righteous Indignation, which he (probably falsely) claimed to have read. When Breitbart deftly contested the faulty premises of Bashir's attack, the host was reduced to showing a racist photoshop of Barack Obama as a monkey and daring Breitbart to oppose it.
Bashir's views are broadly reflective of the rest of the MSNBC lineup, as well as of the Democratic Party. He is the best example (following the departure of Keith Olbermann) of the incivility of the left. While that is not good for the health of political debate, so few people watch his program that he effect on the discourse is nil. But as an example of how low the left is prepared to go, Bashir is an invaluable conservative asset.
