ABC News: One Child Taken to Hospital with Gunshot Wounds Every Hour

During a January 27 ABC News segment titled "Young Guns," Diane Sawyer claimed, "Every hour, a child is rushed to an emergency room because of gunshots." Co-anchor David Muir took it even further and claimed that "453 of those children die at the hospital."

They conflated these claims with the introduction of a study in the Journal of Pediatrics (JP) to show how many children find guns in their homes–or the homes of friends and neighbors–and accidentally shoot themselves or others.

However, to make such an assertation, they ignored the fact that the JP study covered both children and teens who were victims of gunshot wounds, with the latter opening the door to deaths tied to gang activity and criminal misuse of firearms.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, the number of accidental firearm deaths for children ten and under in 2010 was 36. National Review reported that "two thirds of these accidental deaths... [were] not shots fired by other little kids but... by adult males with criminal backgrounds."

On January 28, Breitbart News reported that ABC News put guns and candy on a table in an elementary classroom as part of an "experiment" to push gun control.
