UNC Advances Past Villanova Through Hot Shooting

A Villanova team that lost at home to Columbia but then improved enough to beat three top five teams at home this season was blown out early but then rallied all the way back to catch UNC in the 40s before the Tar Heels superior talent eventually made the hill too high to climb. Hot shooting by the Heels early led to a 15-0 run and the Wildcats were worn out by the time they tightened the score, as UNC shot an impressive 11 for 21 from deep on the night en route to a 78-71 victory.

The Tar Heels’ P.J. Hairston continued his stellar play from the ACC tournament, scoring a game high 23 points and shooting 5 of 8 from beyond the arc. Bullock, Paige, and McAdoo also contributed double-figure production for UNC with 15, 14, and 17 points respectively.

The Tar Heels will most likely face Kansas in the round of 32 and will hope to knock off the South Region No. 1 seed to continue their march to the Final Four.
