Blackhawks Superfan Has Not Missed Game Since 1966
A Chicago Blackhawks superfan from Stokie, Illinois has not missed a home game since 1966, attending 2,152 consecutive home games.
to CBS's Chicago affiliate, Bob Gertenrich has been a season ticket holder since 1966, when tickets were $2.50 a game.
He did not miss a game after having surgery last year and even attended a game after the death of his mother on a game day in 1991. (Gertenrich said his mother passed away at 2 a.m. and the game started at 6:30 p.m.)
“It’s the best game of all-time to watch live,” he said.
The Blackhawks reportedly invited him to the locker room after his 2,000th straight game, where he was greeted with a phone call from NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman.
He said Chicago would beat Boston in six games. Game 7, though, would fall on his birthday, and Gertenrich does not even want to think about how stressful that would be for him.
