Legendary Vin Scully Will Return for 66th Year

Vin Scully, the best there ever was, is, and ever will be, will return for his 66th year as the Dodgers announcer next season.

It was a very pleasant good evening for Dodger fans across the world when the team announced, on the night that honored his 65th anniversary with the team, that the legend and icon will be behind the mic in 2015.

Three Dodgers players made the announcement on a recorded video that was played on Dodger Vision in the stadium. Hyun-Jin Ryu announced the news in Korean, his buddy Yasiel Puig spoke in Spanish, and Justin Turner, a native of Southern California, made the announcement in English.

Scully’s wife Sandi joined him in the booth, and they received a rousing and sustained ovation from the Dodger Stadium crowd after the announcement was made in the second inning.

Scully, who is arguably the most revered figure in Los Angeles and bonds Los Angelinos across backgrounds, generations, and races, has said he would retire once he does not get goosebumps while calling great plays. And it seems like he got plenty this year.

The first 40,000 fans for Tuesday’s game against the Braves received a commemorative mic honoring Scully’s 65 years with the team. No word on how the team will commemorate his 66th anniversary in 2015.

Scully has said the 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers World Series win against the Yankees, which was the Dodgers only title in Brooklyn, was his most meaningful World Series moment, and the redhead from Fordham may have a chance to call another this year with the Dodgers in first place in the NL West and looking like contenders, especially with pitchers Clayton Kershaw and Zack Greinke.

If he doesn’t get a chance to call a World Series this year, he will have another chance next year. He will be 87 years young in 2015.
