KGTV: EL CAJON, Calif. – After responding to reports of a prowler overnight, authorities in El Cajon said they stumbled upon a man in his underwear who led them on a strange chase. The El Cajon Police Department said the incident began at around 1:45 a.m. at an apartment complex in the 200 block of South Pierce Street. Upon arrival at the scene, officers said the man was standing on top of a Toyota Camry, smearing feces on the car.
According to investigators, when the man saw the officers, he pulled shorts on, took off running and jumped over a fence separating South Pierce Street from the westbound lanes of Interstate 8. Officers said they chased the man on the highway while San Diego County sheriff’s deputies shut down all lanes of the westbound I-8.
A police helicopter was called in provide assistance and the man was arrested at a trolley station on the other side of the highway. Authorities said the man’s antics also caused a traffic crash on I-8. No injuries were reported. Officers said they are working to determine if the man may have been under the influence of drugs or suffering from possibly mental issues. It’s unclear what charges are pending
