Pence Blasts Federalized Common Core, Touts States as the 'Cure'

Gov. Mike Pence (R-IN), touted Indiana’s success as a testing ground for conservative policies, and said that “the cure really, for what ails this country is going to come more from our nation’s state capitols than it ever will from our nation’s capitol.”

Pence claimed the reasons for the policy successes of Indiana is “because we’ve been producing common-sense, solution-oriented Republican leadership now for nearly a decade in Indiana, the results speak for themselves.”

Indiana being the first state to withdraw from the mandates of Common Core lends credence to that claim. “I believe education is a state and local function,” explains Pence, who helped to create state-wide standards to replace Common Core. “I don’t know if they’re perfect, but they’re better than Common Core.”
