Ukrainian President Pleads to Congress: 'We Cant Win Wars With Blankets'

Thursday at a joint meeting of the U.S. Congress, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko begged America to “not let Ukraine stand alone” and supply Ukraine with lethal weapons to fight of the Russian aggression because he said they “can not win wars with blankets.”

Poroshenko said, “Leadership, and responsibility, his is the things we can depend the global security. So I urge you not to let Ukraine stand alone.’ 

“This Ukrainian army, imagine these young boys, under-equipped and often under appreciated by the world are the only thing that now stands between reality of the peaceful coexistence and the nightmare of the full lapse into the previous century, into the new Cold War,” he continued.

“I urge the world to recognize and endorse their fight,” Poroshenko added. “They need more political support throughout the world. They need more military equipment, both lethal and nonlethal. Urgently need. Please understand me correctly, blankets, night vision goggles are also important, but one cannot win the war with blankets. Even more, we cannot keep the peace with a blanket and this is most important of our values, of our aid, not to win the war but keeping the peace. for keeping the peace.”
