Teen Hit By Car On ‘Walk To School Day’

BRANDON, Florida – The Walk to School Day web site features pictures of excited children holding signs like “I Love to Walk” and “Walking to School is Cool.”  But for one Florida teenager, it was anything but “cool” when he was hit by car while crossing Parsons Avenue yesterday.

According to authorities, the incident occurred when 15-year-old Andrew Owens headed to school around 7 a.m. Wednesday on a day that was designed to teach children about pedestrian safety. He was struck by a Honda Accord being driven by a 17-year-old and taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Event organizers are hoping that future events will prevent accidents like this from occurring.
