Harry Reid Will Not Allow Votes on GOP Gun Control Repeals

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) is using Senate procedures to prevent Republicans from adding amendments to repeal gun control to the Sportsmen Bipartisan Act.

On July 9 Breitbart News reported that GOP senators were planning to offer amendments that would:

Overturn the ban on large-capacity magazines and assault weapons in the District of Columbia; expand the right to purchase or transport firearms and ammunition across state lines; limit when a military veteran can be denied a firearm due to mental illness; and allow gun owners to carry weapons into post offices or other federal sites.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports that Reid will not allow these amendments to see the light of day.

Reid said he had no other choice but to completely block amendments because he had “been unable to reach an agreement” with Republicans on a “reasonable list” of them.
