Judicial Watch Sues DOJ for Records on Mysterious 2014 Building Explosion in Minneapolis Muslim Area

Government watchdog group Judicial Watch is suing the Department of Justice to obtain records about a suspicious explosion that leveled an apartment complex in a majority Muslim neighborhood in Minneapolis, Minnesota last year.

The January 1, 2014 explosion leveled a building in the largely Muslim Cedar-Riverside neighborhood of Minneapolis, but the incident was never explained to the public, nor did local authorities ever fully investigate the explosion or determine its cause.

The building was owned by Garad Nor, a man who had initially been implicated as a terrorist financier by the U.S Treasury Department. The apartments in the building were mainly occupied by young, single, Muslim men. The building was also adjacent to the Dar Al-Hijrah Islamic Civic Center, a mosque, which lists the Muslim Brotherhood as a contact on its website “Links” page.

Judicial Watch wants to know why no full investigation was ever conducted into why this building blew up and wants any documents that the DOJ has to reveal just what it did do about the mysterious explosion. Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said in a statement:

This building explosion and the building owner’s links to both Somalia and to terrorist financing should sound alarm bells.  The official explanation that the explosion was due to a natural gas leak doesn’t bear scrutiny. Our investigation has raised questions about this explosion and why state and federal officials were so quick to close this case, tear down the building and leave the community without answers about what really happened in Minneapolis. The local Somali community there has provided many recruits for ISIS. The FBI’s and Justice Department’s stonewall, which is forcing us to go to federal court, suggests these agencies have something to hide.
