Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump pledged Dec. 10 that he would seek the death penalty for cop-killers.

Trump made the promise to the New England Police Benevolent Association, which was meeting in New Hampshire.

According to The Hill, Trump said, “One of the first things I’d do in terms of executive order, if I win, will be to sign a strong, strong statement that would go out to the country, out to the world, anybody killing a police man, a police woman, a police officer, anybody killing a police officer, the death penalty is going to happen.”

Trump insisted that we simply can’t look the other way as a growing indifference toward officers and their well-being simmers and bursts forth in certain parts of society. He said, “We can’t let this go,” adding, “I want to let you know, the police and law enforcement in this country, I will never ever let them down.”

“The job they do and the job all you in this room do is second to none, and everyone in our country knows that,” he said.

The promise came amid growing concern among cops that President Barack Obama’s policies are stigmatizing and endangering them.

In September, NEPBA executive director Jerry Flynn asked officers to boycott President Barack Obama’s Labor Day speech in Boston. He claimed that Obama has not taken the plight of officers seriously. “We’re talking about an epidemic and the president of the United States has blood on his hands,” he said.
