Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump said Saturday that, although he hasn’t seen all of the details of the prisoner swap, he thinks it “doesn’t sound too good.”
Trump, speaking at a rally in New Hampshire, said that the deal doesn’t sound good when you take into account the amount of money the United States is giving Iran.
According to the Hill, Trump said:
“I have to see what the deal is for the four people, because somebody said they’re getting seven people back,” Trump said at a rally in Portsmouth, N.H.“So essentially they get 150 billion plus seven, and we get four. Meh, doesn’t sound too good. Doesn’t sound too good.”
“This should have been three, four years ago when the deal was struck,” he said. “Before the deal was made, and this is the world’s longest deal, they should have said we want our prisoners back.”
It was announced Saturday that Iran would release four prisoners: Jason Rezaian, a Washington Post reporter, Amir Hekmati, Saeed Abedini, and Nosratollah Khosravi. The Associated Press is also reporting that a fifth American prisoner will be released.
The prisoner swap comes right when the United Nations’ International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is set to decide whether Iran is in compliance with the July deal. If the IAEA decides that Iran is in compliance, many economic sanctions will be lifted.
