The tens of thousands of pro-life activists gathered in Washington DC today heard more than just pro-life speeches – they also heard a rousing presidential stump speech by Carly Fiorina that may have come as a surprise to event organizers.
On January 4, an adviser to the Ted Cruz campaign alerted Breitbart News that only one presidential candidate was scheduled to speak at the March for Life. In response to inquiries, representatives from the March for Life said Cruz could come and stand on the stage as a member of the Senate but could not speak from the podium.
The March for Life said the group “does not get involved in electioneering” and would not grant Cruz or others permission to speak from the podium in part because they are presidential candidates.
When pressed on why candidate Fiorina was invited to speak, March representatives said, “she will speak only to the theme, not her candidacy.”
However today Carly Fiorina spoke to the crowd at the March for Life Rally and gave a rousing campaign speech.
First, Fiorina went after Hillary Clinton, “Hillary Clinton is giving a pro-abortion speech today in New Hampshire. She is saying that we as conservative women don’t count. But here’s the truth: they have perverted feminism into a left-leaning political ideology where women are pitted against men and used as a political weapon to win elections.”
She concluded her 800-word, ten-minute speech with this; “You can bet I’ll win this fight against Hillary Clinton. And you can count on what I’ll do as President. I will defund Planned Parenthood. I will support the pregnancy centers around the country that are actually serving the families in their communities. Together, we will restore the character of this nation.”
Continuing in the press tent after her speech, Fiorina told Breitbart News reporter Susan Berry, “We have to elect a pro-life president. In a President Fiorina budget there will not be a dime of funding for Planned Parenthood, although we will fund women’s health in community health centers and pregnancy centers across the country.”
