The 45th President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, proclaimed that January 20, 2017, is the day the government was returned to the American people.
“This moment is your moment. It belongs to you,” Trump said to the American people after he took the official oath of office, which was delivered by Supreme Court Justice John Roberts. “This is your day. This is your celebration and this … the United States of America is your country.”
He said it is not about which political party is in control of the U.S. government, “but whether our government is controlled by the people.”
He declared that January 20, 2017, is “the day the people became the rulers of this nation again.”
“The forgotten men and women of our country will be forgotten no longer,” he added, during his speech, which was much about unity. He told the audience that the oath he took prior to his speech is an “oath of allegiance to all Americans.”
“When America is united, America is totally unstoppable,” Trump said, touting the men and women in the military, as well as God. “There should be no fear. We are protected.”
“We the citizens of America are now joined in a great national effort to rebuild our country,” the 45th President of the United States said. “Together, we will determine the course of America and the world for many, many years to come.”
He added that united “we will get the job done,” despite hardships and challenges.
Trump also said he was grateful to the Obamas during the transition. “They have been magnificent. Thank you.”
“From this day forward, a new vision will govern our land. … It’s going to be only America first,” Trump pledged, which echoed his winning campaign message of America First. “Now arrives the hour of action.”
