Guns Sales in South Carolina up ’33 Percent’ Over Same Period in 2017

Gun sales in South Carolina are up “33 percent” in February 2018 compared to where they were in February 2017, according to local reports.

Sales skyrocketed after Democrats responded to the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting with a push for gun control upon gun control.

WYFF referenced gun store owner John Garner, who has been in the gun business for 20 years. Garner spoke about the spike in sales, confirming the “33 percent” rise year-on-year.

He also said, “The last couple of weeks have been very busy. Guns are political. It doesn’t take much to spark an interest.”

Garner noted there has been a run on AR-15s specifically, citing the fact that he sold 17 such rifles in four days following the Florida school shooting.

South Carolina school resource officers (SROs) have noted change since the Florida shooting too. Namely, that students, teachers, and parents are “on edge.”

Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Cpl. Chris Roach has spent three years as a SRO and he said, “You have to train yourself how to channel those emotions. You have to keep your guard up. Complacency is a big thing.”

Roach said his top priority is to ensure that a shooting like the one in Florida does not occur at any of the Oconee County Schools.
