Dr. Tony Campbell (R) is challenging Sen. Ben Cardin (D) to give up armed protection until he is willing to support good guys protecting children in our schools.
Campbell is vying to unseat Sen. Cardin this November and he believes that it is time for lawmakers “to put the safety of school children above their own.”
Breitbart News received Campbell’s press release early. In it he says:
As a father of a four-year-old starting kindergarten this fall, the safety of all of our children is of utmost concern. It does not make sense that those adults who serve in Congress are protected by armed police officers while our children attend schools which have none of those needed safeguards. Senator Ben Cardin continues to fail in protecting our children, while he enjoys lush protection by Capitol Police. I call on Senator Cardin to lead on this important issue by asking for the suspension of Capitol Police protection for members of Congress until Congress allocates funds to states for infrastructure enhancements to protect our country’s children.
He added, “We have a protected class of people who show up to rallies, say nice sounding words, while they are protected by the Capitol Police. The picture of Bernie Sanders attending the anti-gun rally protected by armed Capitol Police officers is the height of hypocrisy by the left. It is past time for Ben Cardin and Bernie Sanders to live like the rest of Americans.”
On March 20, 2018, a good guy with a gun confronted a shooter at Maryland’s Great Mills High School, ending the attack. Sadly, there was one fatality at Great Mills, but that stands in stark contrast to the 17 deaths that resulted from the Parkland school shooting, where the attacker faced no armed resistance.
