University Denies Lena Dunham's 'Girls' Request to Shoot on Campus

The media would have us believe the HBO series Girls represents the voice of today’s 20-somethings.

Lena Dunham’s signature show is a ratings dud, plain and simple, no matter how many media outlets pretend otherwise.

Now, The University of Iowa gave the show another dose of reality, denying HBO’s request to shoot part of its fourth season on campus to follow Dunham’s character to her new writing school.

Having Hannah make her way to the prestigious writing program made sense to the show’s writers, particularly staff writer Sarah Heyward, who is a graduate of the program. Yet, the University of Iowa feels differently.

“While we are pleased that the Iowa Writers’ Workshop is receiving national attention and that our graduate is doing well in her career, our general practice is to not allow filming, due to potential disruption to campus,” university spokesman Tom Moore told the Press-Citizen in a statement.

If Girls were truly the sensation we’ve been lead to believe it is, would a college campus not bend a rule or two to let it shoot on campus?
