Michelle Malkin, David Bossie Battle Liberals with ‘Rocky Mountain Heist’

DENVER–Citizens United President David Bossie introduced a documentary detailing Colorado’s shift to the left to a full house Wednesday night in Colorado.

The fact that the movie could be seen in the first place took legal muscle, cash and a willingness to battle the Democratic machine, Bossie says.

Rocky Mountain Heist features a host of Colorado Republicans, including former U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo and Ken Buck, explaining how the red state turned purple thanks to a quartet of wealthy liberal activists operating in the shadows. This “Gang of Four” (Tim Gill, Rutt Bridges, Jared Polis and Pat Stryker) helped bring legal marijuana to the state, installed unpopular gun control legislation, curtailed energy production and allowed voter fraud within state borders, according to the film.

“If it happened here, it can happen in every state of the country,” warns Jon Caldara, President of the Independence Institute during the film.

Citizens United fought Colorado’s Democratic party to release the film without revealing its financial backers, saying it deserves the same protected free speech as other media outlets. The group initially lost that legal fight, but earlier this month an appeals court ruled unanimously in its favor.

Bossie told Breitbart News the legal confrontation had two objectives.

“We do it so we can win, but it also allows other filmmakers to participate, whether liberal or conservative … and enter the marketplace of ideas,” Bossie says. “The left loves the First Amendment when they agree with it.”

Malkin, who narrates and co-wrote the film, told Breitbart News conservatives have a bigger voice now thanks, in part, to fights like this.

“We take for granted what Citizens United has done … and they’re ability to work outside the so-called mainstream media establishment,” Malkin says.

Documentaries like Rocky Mountain Heist represent the “cultural penetration of the right’s best and brightest minds,” she adds.

Dudley Brown, President of the National Association for Gun Rights and a featured player in the film, says Rocky Mountain Heist exposes the left’s agenda and arrogance. Brown doesn’t mind liberal documentaries in the marketplace, even those by far-left filmmaker Michael Moore.

“It would get my blood pumping … to see what the enemy is doing,” Brown says. “I’ll work twice as hard [to defeat them].”

Malkin ends the film with a reminder of the stakes in play both in Colorado and across the country.

“We know what we’re up against, and now you do, too,” she says.

NewsMax TV will air the one-hour documentary at 9 p.m. EST Oct. 25 and 26. Family Entertainment Television also will broadcast the film at 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. EST Oct. 25.
