The media, Democrats, and weak-kneed Republicans who defend and dismiss our porous Southern border, have plenty of blood on their hands — and not just the everyday Americans victimized by people who simply shouldn’t be here. Due to our unwillingness to secure the border and protect our own citizens, this country lost two major American artists in the last decade, Bob Clark and Adrienne Shelly.
Bob Clark was just 67 when Hector Velazquez-Nava’s SUV crossed the center line on the morning of April 4, 2007, in Los Angeles California. Velazquez-Nava was not insured, did not have a driver’s license, but did have a blood alcohol content at three times the legal limit. Just two years before the accident, Velazquez-Nava received probation after pleading guilty to a prostitution-related crime.
Somehow, after all that, Velazquez-Nava was still in America illegally.
Not only did Bob Clark die in the accident, so did Clark’s 22 year-old son.
Clark is best-remembered as the director of “A Christmas Story,” the 1983 holiday masterpiece that has rightfully assumed its place with “It’s a Wonderful Life” as a perennial classic. Clark also directed “Porky’s” in 1982, the film widely credited with ushering in the era of the raunchy R-rated comedy, an era that, for better or worse, is still with us.
Less than a year earlier, in November of 2006, director Adrienne Shelly’s body was discovered by her husband in her Manhattan office. Because a shower curtain was wrapped around her neck, Shelly’s death looked like a suicide. A shoe print matching that of Diego Philco (a local construction worker) resulted in his arrest just 5 days later. The 19 year-old illegal immigrant from Ecuado eventually confessed and was convicted. He admitted to trying to make the crime look like a suicide. The medical examiner said Shelly was hanged while she was still alive.
What’s especially tragic about this murder is that Shelly, who had been knocking around as an actress for two decades, was murdered just as her breakthrough film, “Waitress,” hit. The well-reviewed festival favorite would have almost certainly launched Shelly’s career as a major female director.
In both cases, the very same media that use an errant Tea Party sign or a Duck Dynasty cast-member as clubs against the conservative-movement as a whole, bent over backwards to underplay the fact that illegal aliens had committed both of these atrocities. For instance, in the case of Shelly, the New York Times described the murderer of this wife and mother as a “worker in the building.”
The pushback against Donald Trump from our lying media looks primarily at the crime rates of those who have entered the country from Mexico legally. Illegal aliens are a completely different story. Of the 36,000 illegals released by the government in 2013, a full 1,000 committed new crimes. [emphasis mine]
The information, which the Department of Homeland Security provided to Mr. Grassley, details all 1,000 convictions, including dozens of drunken-driving convictions, drug offenses and weapons convictions. But the more serious crimes include domestic abuse, carjacking and aggravated assault.
One of the illegal immigrants, identified as No. 960, was subsequently convicted of inflicting injury on a domestic partner; child cruelty, with the possibility of injury or death; probation violations; speeding; driving without a license; and failing to appear for court. …
The 1,000 illegal immigrants in the data were part of a group of 36,007 convicted criminals that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement had been holding but decided to release in 2013.
Those illegal immigrants had amassed nearly 88,000 convictions among them, including 193 homicide convictions, 426 sexual assault convictions, 303 kidnapping convictions and 16,070 drunken- or drugged-driving convictions.
The victims here are both Americans and legal immigrants, and they are victims of their own government — a government more interested in stacking the deck with future Democrat voters than protecting its own citizens.
If just one illegal alien murders an American citizen or legal immigrant, that is the fault of a federal government that is doing the exact opposite of everything in its power to protect us.
It is also the fault of a corrupt media that shares the Left’s goal of importing Democrats, and in order to further that goal, the media parses and gotchas Donald Trump while at the same time downplaying thousands of crimes (and victims) that tragically prove his point.
