A rapper on Chicago’s South Side was shot and killed early Tuesday morning while rapping about guns for a music video in a local park.
The shooting occurred around 2:20 a.m. Four others were shot and wounded in the same incident.
ABC 7 reports the rapper — 23-year-old Damond Dawson — “was shot in the back of the head and pronounced dead at the scene.”
Another rapper, who goes by the name “Foreign Lyfe,” described a scene in which a group of individuals were gathered together to make the video for a song titled, “Two Techs and a 50 Shot,” according to ABC.
He said a gunman came up behind the group and allegedly opened fire. “I heard my homie say that he had seen somebody pulling up or whatever. We turned around and look back again, quick as we looked back, started shooting. Shots coming from everywhere,” he said.
An 19-year-old woman was shot twice in the groin, and “a 20-year-old man was shot nine times in the leg.” An 18-year-old man and a 25-year-old man both sustained minor wounds from being grazed by bullets.
Chicago has an “assault weapons” ban, a “violence tax,” strict limitations on the number of gun stores allowed, and guidelines on where those stores can be located. According to the Chicago Tribune, the city also has 915 shooting victims already this year.
