Playboy Mansion to Sell for $200 Million

According to TMZ, you, too, will be able to buy the Playboy mansion if you agree to two important demands: cough up $200 million, and allow Playboy founder Hugh Hefner and his wife to remain at the mansion and live with you for the rest of Hefner’s life.

The 6-acre mansion in Holmby Hills, a corporate asset of Playboy Enterprises, will reportedly be offered for the $200 million price, but its deplorable condition has caused it to be undervalued for years. In 2011, Hefner took Playboy Enterprises private; shareholders valued the mansion at only $54 million. Zillow appraised the house at $33 million.

Built in 1927, Playboy bought the mansion in 1971 from a Louis D. Statham, who invented measuring devices that helped direct NASA spacecrafts. The house has a pyrotechnics license.

Playboy bunnies have described the mansion as “damp,” with old, worn, and stained mattresses. A former Bunny, Izabella St. James wrote:

Hef was used to dirty carpets. The one in his bedroom had not been changed for years, and things became significantly worse when Holly Madison moved into his room with him as Girlfriend No. 1 soon after I moved in, bringing her two dogs. They weren’t house-trained and would just do their business on the bedroom carpet. Late at night, or in the early hours of the morning — if any of us visited Hef’s bedroom — we’d almost always end up standing in dog mess. Everything in the Mansion felt old and stale, and Archie the house dog would regularly relieve himself on the hallway curtains, adding a powerful whiff of urine to the general scent of decay.
