More British Muslims Believe Jews Behind 9/11 Attacks Than Al-Qaeda

TEL AVIV – Only one in 25 British Muslims believe Osama bin Laden’s al-Qaeda terrorist group was responsible for the 9/11 attacks, a new poll has found.

Out of the 3,000 British Muslims polled by the ICM for the Policy Exchange think tank, 31% said the U.S. government was behind the attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon that claimed the lives of nearly 3,000 people, a result the research said was “deeply troubling.”

Fifty-eight percent said they didn’t know who carried out the attacks and 7% said it was a Jewish plot.

“What was striking about this conversation was the unanimity of views within the focus group about 9/11: there was almost total agreement that this event had been staged,” the survey authors wrote, adding that “it was noticeable how a gathering of otherwise ‘normal,’ well-adjusted individuals could hold fairly outlandish views.”

More than a quarter of respondents said they didn’t believe extremist views existed among British Muslims.

Forty-three percent supported “the introduction of aspects of Sharia law into Britain,” while 22% said they were opposed to the idea.

Forty-four percent said they supported the notion of schools enforcing the hijab or naqib as part of the uniform.

Fifty-two percent of respondents said they would inform the police if someone close to them was “getting involved with people who supported terrorism in Syria.” Twenty-six percent said they would “talk to them directly,” 20% said they would “look for help from family and friends” and 17% said they would “look for help from religious community leaders.”

A full 93% of respondents said they had a strong attachment to the UK.

Close to 5% of the UK’s population is Muslim.
