Borders customers will have the opportunity to meet the former president
and be among the first to have their books signed by Carter. "Palestine: Peace
Not Apartheid" is Carter's 21st book. In it, he offers views on what must be
done to bring permanent peace to Israel with dignity and justice to Palestine.
Sharing his personal knowledge of the history of the Middle East and his
experiences with the principals in the debate, Carter addresses sensitive
political issues and prescribes what steps must be taken for the two states to
share the Holy Land without a system of apartheid or the constant fear of
terrorism.
Recipient of the 2002 Nobel Peace Prize, Carter negotiated a peace between
Israel and Egypt during his presidency and is the founder of the Carter
Center, an organization dedicated to world peace.
"Former President Carter is not only a leading political figure, but has
also become a bestselling author in his own right," said Bill Nasshan, senior
vice president of adult trade books for Borders. "He is known for writing
thought provoking pieces that examine the challenges of the world. This latest
title is highly compelling and especially timely. We believe our customers
will be deeply interested in this book and we are honored to have the former
president at Borders."
To ensure that former President Carter is able to meet as many customers
as possible, he will not be able to write personalized messages as he signs
copies of the book. Only customers who have purchased "Palestine: Peace Not
Apartheid" and are having it signed will be allowed to bring other books
written by Carter to be autographed. No memorabilia or collectibles will be
signed. Photographs will not be permitted and customers are not allowed to
have purses, bags, cameras, or any other material other than books while in
the signing line.
To facilitate the event, Borders will open a registration table at 3 p.m.
on the day of the signing. At that time, wristbands will be given to customers
who have purchased a copy of "Palestine: Peach Not Apartheid" and have proof
of purchase. The wristbands will be provided on a first come, first served
basis and will hold each customer's place in line. A wristband, however, does
not guarantee a chance to meet former President Carter. There is a limit of
five autographed books per customer. Copies of "Palestine: Peace Not
Apartheid" are available for purchase at all Borders stores.
