NEW YORK, Jan. 7 (UPI) — Anne Hathaway touched on several subjects, including her advice for future Oscar presenters, in a recent interview with the New York Times.

The Oscar-winning actress, who hosted the 83rd Academy Awards along with James Franco in 2011, said that upcoming hosts would be safe simply by “[doing] the opposite of what [she] did.”

As for Neil Patrick Harris, who will host the 2014 Oscars, Hathaway said he had nothing to worry about.

“He’ll be great. He’s a natural host,” said the actress.

The 32-year-old actress also discussed the vitriol that ensued her winning an Academy Award for her role as Fantine in the movie adaptation of Les Miserables and explained a quote she gave for a previous interview where she said the purpose of what happened eventually “revealed itself.”

“[I meant] self-acceptance,” said Hathaway. “If you’re not someone who has a natural and effortless love for yourself, it’s hard to let go of your desire to please other people, and that’s really not an ingredient for a happy life.”

As for other bad habits she’s kicked in her life, the actress revealed she has once and for all quit smoking.

“I got hooked for a few years,” said Hathaway, who reportedly started smoking while preparing for her role in the indie drama Rachel Getting Married (2008).

“I had a four-year break, and then actually when I was producing ‘Song One,’ I started smoking again. It’s easy to romanticize it when you haven’t done it in a while, but it’s actually pretty disgusting,” she added.
