HAMPTON BAY , N.Y., Jan. 12 (UPI) — A four-week-old gray seal pup was found washed up on a beach in Hampton Bay, N.Y., on Tuesday morning.
The Riverhead Foundation, a New York-based nonprofit corporation, posted a video of the beached seal to Twitter and encouraged passersby to give the animal some space.
“Gray seal pup in Hampton Bays. Please remain 50 yards away at all times as per federal law and for the seal’s safety!” they wrote.
The seal was discovered during a beach clean-up event hosted by the Riverhead Foundation on Long Island’s Ponquogue Beach.
