Feb. 25 (UPI) — Bronny James, the son of Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James, had surgery to repair a significant knee injury.

League sources told ESPN and the Los Angeles Daily News on Thursday that Bronny James suffered a torn meniscus in his knee at a practice earlier this month. According to the outlets, the injury is believed to be season-ending.

The highly touted sophomore at Sierra Canyon High School in California confirmed his knee injury during a Twitch livestream this week, but he didn’t mention how the injury occurred.

James has yet to play any official games this season due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. He has plans to play a spring basketball season.

James, who is listed at 6-foot-2 and plays guard for the Trailblazers, averaged 4.1 points in 15 minutes per game as a freshman at Sierra Canyon. He appeared in all 34 games.

ESPN lists James as the No. 25 overall prospect in the 2023 recruiting class. 247Sports ranks him as the 30th-best recruit in that class.
