'Captain America: Civil War' tops the North American box office with $182M

LOS ANGELES, May 8 (UPI) — The superhero ensemble picture Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War is the No. 1 movie in North America, earning $182 million in receipts during its opening weekend, BoxOfficeMojo.com announced.

The movie sees the title character, played by Chris Evans, butting heads with Iron Man, played by Robert Downey Jr., over ideological differences.

Coming in at No. 2 for the period of May 6-8 is The Jungle Book with $21.9 million, followed by Mother’s Day at No. 3 with $9 million, The Huntsman: Winter’s War at No. 4 with $3.6 million and Keanu at No. 5 with $3.1 million.

Rounding out the top tier are Barbershop: The Next Cut at No. 6 with $2.7 million, Zootopia at No. 7 with $2.68 million, The Boss at No. 8 with $1.8 million, Ratchet & Clank at No. 9 with $1.5 million and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice at No. 10 with $1 million.

USA Today said Civil War had the fifth biggest opening in film history, following Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron with $191.3 million, Marvel’s The Avengers with $207.4 million, Jurassic World with $208.8 million and Star Wars: The Force Awakens with $248 million.
