Jan. 30 (UPI) — It all started with an airball.

The Portland Trail Blazers threw some tremendous shade on Memphis Grizzlies’ Chandler Parsons Friday, but it took the weekend for it to come fully into the light.

On Friday, the Blazers’ official Twitter account tweeted: “to be fair, the NBA 3-point line is really, really far away from the basket.” The caption was written on a post of Parsons airballing a 3-point attempt during the Grizzlies’ 112-109 loss to the Blazers.

Parsons responded early Saturday morning, writing: “@trailblazers good luck in the lottery show this year.” The tweet was referring to the NBA lottery, where the worst teams in the league vie for the top spot in the NBA Draft.

The Grizzlies are 28-21 this season, while the Blazers are 21-28.

Blazers guard C.J. McCollum responded to Parsons’ rip by saying: “we hit the lottery by not signing you.”

Parsons, 28, is due $22.1 million this season and has $1 million escalators through 2019, after signing a four-year, $94 million max contract this offseason as an unrestricted free agent. He has never made an All-Star team and is averaging a career-low 6.7 points per game this season.

McCollum, 25, is averaging a career-high 23.5 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game for the Blazers. He is cashing in for $3.2 million this season, but makes $23.9 million in 2017.

Parsons responded to McCollum’s jab by tweeting: “stop it. Technically, I hit the lottery.”

Trail Blazers president Chris McGowan issued a statement to ESPN regarding the tweet Saturday afternoon.

“We give our social media staff pretty strict guidelines, so they operate knowing what is appropriate and what isn’t,” McGowan told ESPN. “This one was meant to be lighthearted and fun but was probably a little too close to the line we try to keep on mediums like Twitter. It’s a learning lesson for us and we will be more mindful going forward.”

“Our official [Twitter] account is meant to be fun and positive. It’s not our intention to cause things to turn negative. In this case it did, and that is what we want to avoid going forward.”

Parsons responded to the statement.

“It’s all in good fun! No hard feelings,” he wrote on Twitter.

The Blazers are 2-1 against the Grizzlies this season.
