Man held over US show 'Breaking Bad' script theft

Police said Tuesday they arrested a man accused of stealing a script for Emmy award-winning US TV show “Breaking Bad” from star actor Bryan Cranston’s car.

Xavier McAfee, 29, was detained on suspicion of burglary last week and appeared in court Monday in New Mexico, where the actor lives and the show is set, said Bernalillo County Sheriff’s officials.

Cranston’s car was broken into in Sandia Peak, near Albuquerque in December, and belongings including an iPad, a shoulder bag and “miscellaneous” personal items were stolen.

“On December 20, 2012, Bryan Cranston’s vehicle was broken into … Several items were stolen from his vehicle to include a script for the television series ‘Breaking Bad’,” said a sheriff’s office statement.

Detectives “following up on a tip” obtained an arrest warrant for McAfee.

“None of the items stolen have been recovered but detectives are still actively investigating this case,” the statement read.

“Breaking Bad,” which is in its fifth season, follows Cranston’s character Walter White, a former high school teacher who is producing the world’s highest quality crystal meth with a former student named Jesse Pinkman, played by Aaron Paul.

The show, which started in 2008, has been nominated for four Golden Globes and won seven Primetime Emmy awards, including best actor for Cranston three times, in 2008, 2009 and 2010.
