With electricity still out at their home stadium in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, the New York Red Bulls will switch dates with D.C. United in their two-leg Major League Soccer playoff series.
The North American football league announced Wednesday that United will now host New York on Saturday. The teams meet again next Wednesday at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey, near where the devastating storm made landfall.
Jerome de Bontin, general manager of the Red Bulls, said city officials have not said when the team could expect power to be reconnected at the stadium but that it might take several days given the severe damage to homes in the area.
“We’ve been dealing off the generators,” de Bontin said. “The generators are not enough to provide all the electricity we would need to hold a game.”
Power went out on Monday evening when the killer storm slammed into the New Jersey coast.
