Two women were being held on Monday after a 79-year-old man died following a dog attack in his back garden in Liverpool, police said.
Merseyside Police were investigating the death of Clifford Clarke in Clubmoor on Saturday night.
The police said that armed officers had attended the scene and found a body and a dog which was “out of control.” The animal was then destroyed. The breed of the dog has not yet been released.
Two local women aged 27 and 28 have been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter, police said.
“Two women…from Clubmoor remain in police custody having been arrested at 10pm last night on suspicion of an offence under Section 3(3) the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991,” said a force spokesman.
“They have been further arrested this afternoon on suspicion of manslaughter.
“Both are still being interviewed by detectives.”
House-to-house inquiries are underway and police are carrying out forensic examinations at the scene.
The incident follows the death of teenager Jade Anderson who was killed by four dogs at a friend’s house in Wigan in March.
