Hamilton storms to Abu Dhabi pole

McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton will start on pole for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix after finishing quickest in final qualifying held under floodlights here on Saturday.

The 27-year-old former champion posted a time of 1min 40.630sec to confirm his strong performance in practice for his second pole here after 2009.

Hamilton is joined on the front row by Mark Webber, with the Australian’s Red Bull teammate and championship leader Sebastian Vettel on the second row after finishing third in qualifying.

Williams’ driver Pastor Maldonado starts alongside the double world champion after taking fourth with Fernando Alonso, Vettel’s closest rival in the standings, only seventh.
