Five Canadian fishermen presumed drowned in Atlantic

Canadian authorities called off a search on Wednesday for five fishermen presumed to have drowned after their boat capsized in a storm off the coast of Halifax in the North Atlantic.

Two Canadian Coast Guard vessels and three aircraft had been sent to search for the 13.5-meter (44-foot) trawler Miss Ally after receiving a distress call late Sunday.

Officials said the rough seas and cold water temperatures diminished the chances that any of the men, all of whom were in their 20s, could have survived.
