Mohamed Bin Hammam, the ex-Asian football chief, has had his temporary suspension extended by 45 days by FIFA’s ethics committee.
The Qatari multi-millionaire has been banned from football activities for more than a year after world football’s governing body found him guilty of bribery during his election campaign to replace FIFA president, Sepp Blatter.
In July his lifetime ban from the game was overturned by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on grounds of insufficient evidence with the proviso that the case could be reopened if fresh evidence came to light.
Anticipating this current extension to his temporary ban the 63-year-old lodged a fresh appeal with CAS at the start of this month.
Bin Hammam, who maintains he is innocent, believes the charges are motivated by political reasons.
