Cameron to call for bold response to globalisation

Prime Minister David Cameron was on Monday to issue a rallying cry to over 100 business executives, calling on them to be bold in the face of globalisation.

Cameron was also expected to outline the government’s strategy for firing up the stuttering economy, including plans to cut the corporation tax to the lowest rate in the G20, according to extracts of the speech released by Downing Street.

“The rejection of the modern world and the un-questioning embrace of globalisation — they amount to different kinds of national timidity,” he was to tell executives in Essex.

“Either too wary to engage with the world or too afraid to stand up for our national interests.

“The argument of this government is that to succeed, it’s no use just hiding away from the world ?- we’ve got to roll our sleeves up and compete in it.

“It’s no use just giving in to the world ? we’ve got to be unashamedly bold and hard-headed about pursuing our national interests,” he was to add.

The battle to reinvigorate the economy will be won by showing ambition and increasing competition domestically and by pursuing Britain’s interests abroad, he will say.

According to the extracts, the government will focus efforts on resolving “our debt-fuelled, unbalanced economy…our bloated welfare system…and our under-performing education system.”
