Man held on suspicion of murdering Shropshire teen

A 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of the murder of a teenager from Shropshire who has been missing for four days.

The man was originally detained in Glasgow on Wednesday on suspicion of kidnapping 17-year-old Georgia Williams, from the town of Wellington, West Mercia Police said.

But detectives then rearrested the man, also from Wellington, on suspicion of murder after he was brought back to Telford from Scotland on Wednesday night.

Police have described the man in custody as a “friend” of the missing teenager, but not her boyfriend, and said her disappearance was “completely out of character”.

Officers said Williams has still not been found, and appealed for any information as to her whereabouts, saying finding her was “still the primary focus” of their investigation.

“We still urgently want people to come forward and tell us if they have seen or had any contact with her since 7.30pm on Sunday when she left the family home,” Telford and Wrekin commander Superintendent Nav Malik said.

?I would remind people that Georgia, who is white, 5ft 3ins, slim and with long, dyed, red hair, was last seen wearing a waist length black leather jacket over a white T-shirt which has a London bus motif on it.

“She was also wearing black, skinny jeans and flat, black suede slip-on shoes.

?We also want to hear from anyone who may have seen a silver Toyota Hiace 300 GS panel van, registration CX06 ASV, which we know took a route from Wellington to Oswestry in Shropshire before moving on to Rhyl, Chester, Kendal in Cumbria and then Glasgow.”

Police said the van, which they recovered from a car park in Glasgow city centre on Wednesday, had been “driven by the suspect prior to his arrest.”

Police urged anyone with information about the case to call their dedicated incident room on 0800 056 0944.
