An explosion was heard near Israel’s northern border with Lebanon on Thursday, moments after air raid sirens sounded in the region, witnesses and AFP correspondents said.
Witnesses reported hearing a blast near the northern coastal town of Nahariya.
The Israeli army had no immediate comment, but police urged residents in the region to remain close to bomb shelters.
Media reports said the Iron Dome defence system intercepted at least one rocket fired from Lebanon.
