Organizers of the Breeders’ Cup horse racing event, a 14-race showdown with $27 million in prize money on the line, said Monday they will stage the 2014 thoroughbred event at Santa Anita Park.
That will mark the third year in a row that the facility in suburban Los Angeles will host the event, with the 30th Breeders’ Cup set for next November 1-2. The 2014 event will be staged on October 31-November 1.
Santa Anita hosted the Breeders’ Cup for the sixth time last year, having also staged the event in 1986, 1993, 2003, 2008 and 2009.
“Santa Anita has proven to be an outstanding host for our championships,” said Breeders’ Cup president Craig Fravel. “We are delighted to extend our partnership with Santa Anita for a third consecutive year.”
Breeders’ Cup officials said no decisions have been made regarding sites for the event beyond 2014.
