Lakers guard Blake fined for verbal abuse of fan

Los Angeles Lakers guard Steve Blake was fined $25,000 by the NBA for directing inappropriate language at a spectator, the league announced on Tuesday.

The incident occurred just after Blake fouled out of the game with 29.2 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter of the Lakers’ 105-95 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers last Friday.

Blake engaged in a heated exchange with a fan seated at courtside in the Staples Center, the arena which both the Clippers and Lakers call home.

Blake moved into a starting role when Canadian guard Steve Nash went down with a small fracture in his left leg. Nash might be out for up to a month but he will be re-evaluated at the end of this week.

The Lakers are 1-3, having avoided losing their first four games of a season for the first time since 1957 with a 108-79 victory over Detroit on Sunday.
