Becky Hammon, the US-born guard who helped Russia capture an Olympic women’s basketball medal at the 2008 Olympics, has suffered a broken right middle finger, her Women’s NBA club said Monday.
Hammon received the injury during a Saturday workout for the WNBA’s San Antonio Silver Stars ahead of the upcoming season. No timetable was immediately set for her return.
The seven-time WNBA All-Star ranked second in the league last season with 5.3 assists a game and was second on the Silver Stars with 14.7 points a game.
After failing to earn an invitation to try out for the 2008 US Olympic squad, Hammon became a Russian citizen that year and helped her new homeland capture a bronze medal at the Beijing Games by defeating China for third place.
Hammon also played for Russia at the 2012 London Olympics.
